Elements

The content you collect, save, and organize. Everything in Cosmos starts as an Element.

What is an element?

An element is any piece of content you save in Cosmos. Everything starts as an element, which you can organize into clusters as you use the app. Elements can include:

  • Images: Single images or carousels (e.g., multi-image Instagram posts).

  • Videos & GIFs: Under 10 seconds will autoplay (on desktop only). Longer videos display a play button.

  • Text notes: Fully editable notes with options for styled formatting.

  • Links: Any webpage — including articles, blog posts, or other sources.

  • Products: Items from e-commerce sites, including price, description, and a link to the retailer.

How to add new elements

You can add new elements to Cosmos in two ways: upload them manually, or save them from a website using a saving extension. New elements land in your all elements archive, and can be connected to clusters any time.

1. Uploading elements manually

On desktop: Click Create in the top navigation, then choose New Element.

On mobile: Tap + button in the tab bar, then choose New Element.

From there, you can upload image or video files (max 100GB in file size), paste a URL, or write a text note.

2. Using saving extensions

Save content from the web with Saving Extensions, available for Chrome, Safari, and iOS. Right-click (on desktop) or tap (on mobile) to save images, videos, links, or products to your profile. Learn more in the Extensions guide.

Element details

Each element on Cosmos has additional details, information, and actions you can take. Access these details by opening the element view or clicking the More options menu (•••). On desktop, you can also right-click an image in the grid to open this menu.

Details include:

  • Source: If an element was saved from the web, the original source URL is automatically included. A source link can also be added to elements you upload manually.

  • Captions: Most elements include AI-generated captions that provide additional context (like artist, year, style, or subject matter).

  • Download: Click this to save an element directly to your device.

  • Find Similar: Scroll down when viewing an element to see visually similar content.

  • Connections: See which public clusters an element is connected to — including those created by other users — to explore how others are curating the same image.

Managing Elements

There are a few simple ways to organize and manage your elements on Cosmos. Everything you save appears in all elements and can be added to clusters or deleted at any time.

  • All elements: Any content you upload or save is added to your all elements archive by default. This is a private collection of all the content you’ve saved.

  • Connecting to a cluster: Open the connect panel to connect or disconnect elements from a cluster. An element can be connected to multiple clusters at once. If you connect an element to a cluster while browsing, it will also be added to your all elements archive.

  • Deleting an element: Deleting an element removes it from your all elements and from any clusters it’s connected to. If no other user has connected that element, it’s permanently deleted from Cosmos. If others have connected it, your copy is removed but the element remains accessible to them.
